I had the most mystical entertainment experience! On a whim, we went on a road trip adventure to the Renaissance Faire. We saw jousting, men in tights, and glass dragon art. At the fair, they have stages scattered about where rotating acts perform. We saw some comical acrobats. We then strolled over to another venue and settled in for what we thought was going to be a juggling troupe. We were wrong! This is where I saw Sirena The Sirens. Sirena The Sirens is a performance art group of three women who are self-styled sirens from Greek Mythology. They float around the stage in aquamarine rags, blue makeup, and shells in their hair like sea witches. Using drums, clapping, harmonizing, and pounding staffs on the floor, they sing about the sea, love, and magic. Here’s how they describe themselves on their facebook page.
Travel back to the time of mythical gods, shipwrecked lovers, and the ethereal women whom all sailors both fear and adore–the Sirens. Straight from the depths of the sea, Aglaope, Legeia, and Raidne bring you a show filled with drumming, dancing, and all-original music. Their songs will hypnotize you and their stories will touch your hearts, but hold on to your souls, or you might find you’ve lost them to the hands of the Sirens!
I was enthralled. I loved them so much that I had to buy their cd. And I don’t own any cds! I even had it autographed by the ladies. You too can buy their music at their website here. I’ll give it a listen in my car and then gift it to my friend KK. She will dig their music. Here’s a video from youtube with their latest single.
Here’s another video of them performing live at the fair.
Such amazing raw talent. I am smitten. I kinda want to quit my job and follow them on tour. Maybe they need a roadie?
Because I’m a taurus and plan ahead, I purchased eclipse viewing glasses months ago for cheap on amazon. We are taking a long weekend trip to view the total eclipse next week. I paid $15 for a set of 3. They resemble plastic framed sunglasses of questionable quality. I’ll plunk a picture above. But who cares what they look like? I will only have them on my face for three minutes, tops.
Fast forward to yesterday when amazon emailed me. It had come to their attention that my eclipse sunglasses purchase was not ISO certified – whatever the hell that means. I was instructed to not place those specs on my face for fear of death, dismemberment, and certain blindness. Amazon refunded my money but did not require me to return the item. Customer service is important.
I figured that kinda sucks but I’ll survive. I have amazon prime and could just order a new set that is ISO certified, right? Wrong! All eclipse glasses online are now sold out across the board. And the only ones available for sale are cheapie paper, disposable frames – like old school 3D movie glasses.
For these throwaway paper frames vendors are charging upwards of $109. It’s highway robbery! Isn’t this sort of obvious scarcity speculation a crime? And don’t be fooled about the safety recall. I’d wager the manufacturers of the paper “wanna get hosed?” frames went through, complained to amazon about all the competitors, and had them taken down. The set I purchased is no longer listed online. These criminals are mistaken if they think I am paying $100 for a piece of paper that I only need for three minutes. My non-ISO certified viewing frames will be on my head during the eclipse. Maybe I should step outside today and stare at the sun to test them? #BRB
I had the strangest dreams last night. It won’t sound like anything special, but it has lingered. Usually, my dreams fade quickly. I was playing hooky from work and decided that I would sneak and see a movie during the day. Surely, no one would notice if I disappeared for two hours as long as I returned to my desk before five o’clock. I went to the movie theater at the mall. In my dream universe, the foyer of the movie theater was a large gymnasium filled with thousands of people jostling and queuing to see movies. Though I appeared to be walking normally, I had a strange cane. It was a large several foot wide semicircle with a grip on top. It looked like a metal hoop cut in half. The ends of the semicircle sat on the ground, as I walked to keep me steady. Pick up, set down. Pick up, set down. I’ve attached a picture of the closest thing I could find online which resembles this cane. Again, I was walking normally and not in pain. I am not sure why I had the large, unusual cane. There was a place in the gymnasium where one could store large canes – like a self-service coat check. I knew that it wasn’t appropriate to bring the big hoop cane into the theater. I placed my cane on a rack and then got in line for the movie. While in line, I began to have second thoughts about playing hooky during the work day. I decided that I’d leave and go back to work. I went to the cane storage area. There were now hundreds of canes. I spent some time flipping between the canes but couldn’t tell which one was mine. They were all so similar. As I searched, I became more and more desperate to get back to work. I feared the longer I waited, the greater the risk someone would notice that I was missing. Finally, I decided to ditch my special cane and leave it there. I raced out of the mall and back to my car.
I have no idea what this dream means. I know it was seeded by my recent trip to a new mall where I walked by a movie theater that had an unusually long line mid-day.
I’m excited to announce that the second installment in my Blood Dreams serial will be released on September 19, 2017. To whet your appetites, I’m revealing the cover of Forgotten Book: Blood Dreams 2. I’m working with a very talented designer on the covers named Kostis Ept of kbookcovers.com. He brought my vision of Peter to life, and I’m kinda in love with the results. I can’t wait to share them all with you.
Hey kids! I am very excited to announce that Blood Dreams is now available for pre-order on amazon. Blood Dreams is a tale that I am releasing in episodic format. This is the first installment in the series. Release the ticker tape! I hope you enjoy it.
